Opportunities

The English department has a number of opportunities for students to pursue. Here’s a listing of things to look at and potentially engage with in your time here in the department! Let me know if you have any questions about what’s listed here!

  • English Club
Meets bi-monthly to discuss all things English-related, both socially and academically. I hear they occasionally have food.
  • Internship Program
You can take ENG 350 in a Spring semester to get course credit for building up your resume! Win-win! (And companies love to hire past interns as well!)
  • English Honors Society (Sigma Tau Delta)
If you have an overall GPA of 3.25 and a major GPA of 3.5, have taken at least two English courses at the 200-level or higher, and have completed three semesters of college work, then you qualify for the Honors society. (This looks fancy on a resume and really good on a CV for graduate school!)
  • Oxford Study Abroad Program
Specifically geared towards English majors, this study abroad program will allow you to fulfill some GEP requirements.

If you’re looking for opportunities outside the department, I highly recommend this as a starting point:

  • Get Involved
This page is a central hub with lots of different opportunities for you to get involved on campus.

(Many thanks again to Dr. Christin Phelps, who collected this information!)
